Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease that is spread from person to person through the air. TB usually affects the lungs. The germs are released into the air when a person with active TB of the lung coughs, sneezes, laughs, or sings. TB can also affect the brain, the kidneys, the spine, or other parts of the body.
The purpose of the TB control program at the Florida Department of Health in Marion County is to:
- Identify and treat to cure all active cases of TB
- Identify and test (also treat if indicated) all individuals exposed to an active TB case
- Conduct TB surveillance activities
- Provide education on TB disease
Tuberculin skin tests (TST or PPD) are provided by appointment only for a nominal fee. Call 352-644-2691 to schedule an appointment.
