Epidemiology

Florida Department of Health in Marion County

The Epidemiology program is responsible for the surveillance of reportable communicable diseases. This does not include sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS. To help protect the health of Marion County residents and visitors, the epidemiology team:

  • Investigates, intervenes, monitors, and coordinates reporting of communicable diseases that occur in Marion County.
  • Identifies the source of an agent, identifies the mode and time of transmission, identifies other persons who may have been exposed, and institutes prompt action to prevent the spread of disease.
  • Provides education and consultation on infectious diseases to health care providers, community groups, and the general public.
