The Florida Department of Health in Marion County manages the biomedical waste program for Marion and Citrus counties. There are more than 600 facilities in Marion County and 300 in Citrus County that generate biomedical waste. These include hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, laboratories, funeral homes, dentists, veterinarians, physicians, pharmacies, body piercing salons, tattoo shops, transporters, and storage and treatment facilities. The biomedical waste program helps protect the health of workers, environmental-service staff, waste haulers, and the general public from risks associated with potentially infectious biomedical waste.

You can get information on biomedical waste inspections at the Department’s Inspection Reports and Data page.
