What is BRAZEN?

BRAZEN is the Sexual Risk Avoidance program in the Health Education branch of the Florida Department of Health in Marion County. This positive youth development program educates various audiences (primarily youth) in Marion County on healthy decision making.

Our goal is to build awareness, character and self-confidence in the youths of Marion County.

Who does BRAZEN present to?

Middle School
High School
Youth Groups (church groups and other youth program groups)
At-risk Youth
Adult and Parent Groups
Lowell Correctional Facility Transition Program

Depending on the needs of the group, a presentation can be from one hour to eight hours in length. To receive the full curriculum, you will need to schedule an eight-hour event.

Topics Covered in presentations:

Abstinence—what it is, how to achieve it and why it is beneficial   

Goals and dreams—think about them, plan ahead of time, consider how certain decisions can positively or negatively affect each one

Debunking local myths

Decision making—dealing with pressures, sexting, drinking, drugs, violence, etc.           

Teen pregnancy—how it happens and why particular actions are not going to prevent an unplanned pregnancy from happening          

Sexually transmitted diseases (including HIV and AIDS)—what they are and how they spread  

Healthy vs. unhealthy relationships

Topics are presented in various methods, including group activities, individual activities, thought-provoking discussions, visual descriptions, PowerPoint presentations, and videos.
