OCALA, Fla.—Marion County is reporting 8,261 cumulative cases of COVID-19 as of this afternoon. This is an increase of 89 cases since yesterday (Aug. 26); 23 of today’s cases are correctional-related.

Of Marion COVID-19 tests from Aug. 26, 12.27% were positive; the county’s cumulative positive test rate is 13.6%. The daily positivity rate for all new COVID-19 tests in Florida on Aug. 26 was 6.36%; the state’s cumulative positive rate is 13.53%.

New COVID-19 related deaths

The most recent individuals to have passed away after contracting COVID-19 include: 

• 49-year-old female from Ocala
• 69-year-old male from Ocala
• 75-year-old female from The Villages
• 77-year-old male from Ocala
• 78-year-old male from Ocala
• 78-year-old male from Silver Springs
• 82-year-old female from Ocala
• 90-year-old female from Ocala
• 91-year-old male from Ocala

Each had underlying health conditions. A total of 165 Marion County residents have died after testing positive for COVID-19. They ranged in age from 32 years old to 98 years old.
