DOH-Marion provides COVID-19 update (Aug. 7)

OCALA, Fla.—Marion County is reporting 5,984 cumulative cases of COVID-19 as of this afternoon. This is an increase of 277 cases since yesterday (Aug. 6); 147 of today’s cases were correctional-related.
Of Marion COVID-19 tests from Aug. 6, 14% were positive; the county’s cumulative positive test rate is 12%. The daily positivity rate for all new COVID-19 tests in Florida on Aug. 6 was 10.12%; the state’s most recent cumulative positive rate is 13.21%.
New COVID-19 related deaths
Three new individuals have passed away after contracting COVID-19. Each had underlying health conditions. They include:
- 73-year-old male from Ocala
- 73-year-old male from Ocala
- 90-year-old female from Ocala
A total of 86 Marion County residents have died after testing positive for COVID-19. They ranged in age from 32 years old to 98 years old. All but three of the COVID-19 linked deaths in Marion County reported underlying health conditions.
