OCALA, Fla.—Marion County is reporting 5,707 cumulative cases of COVID-19 as of this afternoon. This is an increase of 164 cases since yesterday (Aug. 5); 41 of today’s cases were correctional-related.

Of Marion COVID-19 tests from Aug. 5, 8.4% were positive; the county’s cumulative positive test rate is 11.8%. The daily positivity rate for all new COVID-19 tests in Florida on Aug. 5 was 8.34%; the state’s cumulative positive rate is 13.21%.

New COVID-19 related deaths

Seven new individuals have passed away after contracting COVID-19. Each had underlying health conditions. They include:

• 57-year-old male from Summerfield
• 59-year-old female from Ocala
• 78-year-old female from Ocala
• 81-year-old female from Ocala
• 84-year-old female from Ocala
• 87-year-old male from Ft. McCoy
• 97-year-old female from Ocala

A total of 83 Marion County residents have died after testing positive for COVID-19. They ranged in age from 32 years old to 98 years old. All but three of the COVID-19 linked deaths in Marion County reported underlying health conditions.

Eighty-nine percent of deaths were in individuals 55 or older. Of the age groups with deaths in Marion, there have been:

• 2 total in 25-34 year olds
• 2 total in 35-44 year olds
• 5 total in 45-54 year olds
• 14 total in 55-64 year olds
• 11 total in 65-74 year olds
• 29 total in 75-84 year olds
• 20 total in 85+ year olds
