OCALA, Fla.— A 96-year-old female from Marion County has passed away after contracting COVID-19. She was an Ocala resident and had underlying health conditions. This is the eighth death related to COVID-19 in Marion County.

Marion County is reporting 272 COVID-19 cases as of 11 a.m. The most recent individuals confirmed to have the virus are:

• 61-year-old female from Ocala
• 44-year-old female from Ocala
• 30-year-old female from Ocala
• 54-year-old female from Ft. McCoy
• 54-year-old female from Ocala
• 19-year-old female from Ocala
• 46-year-old male from Ocala
• 50-year-old male from Ocala
• 70-year-old female from Silver Springs
• 66-year-old male from Ocala
• 54-year-old male from Ocala

A total of 15,029 individuals have been tested for the virus in the county; of those, 14,754 tested negative. Individuals who tested positive for the virus have ranged in age from 6 months to 97 years old. Marion’s positive test rate is 1.8%; Florida’s positive test rate is 5.4%.

Testing

The Department of Health in Marion County provides free COVID-19 testing for both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals. You do not need a doctor’s order to be tested. People who are experiencing symptoms and others considered “high risk” have priority for testing slots.

Testing is by appointment only; call the DOH-Marion COVID-19 Call Center at 352-644-2590 to be scheduled for a COVID-19 test. Testing is held at the Department of Health in Marion County’s Ocala office (1801 SE 32nd Ave.)
