DOH-Marion provides COVID-19 update (May 31)

OCALA, Fla.—Marion County is reporting 248 COVID-19 cases as of this afternoon. The most recent individuals confirmed to have the virus are:

  • 89-year-old female resident of Indiana
  • 21-year-old female resident of Alachua County
  • 47-year-old female from Ocala
  • 43-year-old male from Ocala

So far, 13,199 COVID-19 tests have been given in Marion County. Of those, 12,949 were negative. Individuals who tested positive for the virus have ranged in age from 6 months to 97. Seven Marion County residents have died after becoming ill with COVID-19. Marion’s positive test rate is 1.9%; Florida’s positive test rate is 5.5%.

Testing

The Department of Health in Marion County provides free COVID-19 testing for both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals. You do not need a doctor’s order to be tested. People who are experiencing symptoms and others considered “high risk” have priority for testing slots.

Testing is by appointment only; call the DOH-Marion COVID-19 Call Center at 352-644-2590 to be scheduled for a COVID-19 test. Testing is held at the Department of Health in Marion County’s Ocala office (1801 SE 32nd Ave.)

New local call center hours effective Monday, June 1

Starting June 1, the DOH-Marion COVID-19 Call Center will operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents can continue to call the state hotline (866-779-6121) 24/7 for COVID-19-related questions.
