Ocala, Fla.—Join Safe Kids Marion County for National Seat Check Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 19 at Palm Chevrolet, 2300 SW College Road in Ocala.

The free community event is sponsored by the Florida Department of Health in Marion County, the Ocala Police Department, Palm Chevrolet, K Country and WIND-FM radio, and Safe Kids.

“Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children under 12 years old,” said Erin Hess, Health Officer for the Florida Department of Health in Marion County. “Parents can have professionals check to see if they have the right seats for their children, installed correctly, while enjoying this fun community event.”

Every day, an average of two children ages 12 and under are killed and 325 are injured in car crashes. Using the correct car seat reduces the chance of fatal injury for infants by 71 percent.

Free food is included in this community event. Emergency vehicles will be on display, including an armored vehicle and police motorcycle from the Ocala Police Department, and a fire truck from Ocala Fire Rescue.
