April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Here at DOH-Marion and elsewhere around Ocala some advocates for children have planted "pinwheel gardens" during this month. You may ask: "Why pinwheels?"

Pinwheels have been the national symbol of child abuse prevention since 2008. They bring to mind playfulness, joy, and childhood innocence. They also signal things we want for all children everywhere: hope, safety, health, and happiness. The rate of child abuse in Marion County is going down. Still, based on state data, we expect more than 200 children between 5 and 11 to be victimized this year. Please do your part to help prevent another kid from being abused.
